When communication problems threaten his relationship with his fiancée, Charles decides to teach a supercomputer the nuances of human language well enough to compete on Jeopardy. However, when Charles’ communication problems threaten the project as well as his relationship, he fantasizes about talking to someone with whom he has no trouble communicating, namely a double of himself. When Charles’ fiancée leaves him, the supercomputer fails and even his fantasy version of himself turns on him, Charles is forced to confront the intricacies of language that he could never teach a computer to understand.
