Film Independent Announces 2026 Alfred P. Sloan Producers Grantee

Science & Film is thrilled to report that producer Justin Hung Nguyen has been awarded the 2026 Alfred P. Sloan Producers Grant at Film Independent’s Fiction Producing Lab for STEM. In addition to participating in the prestigious lab, Nguyen will receive a $30,000 grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to support the development of Daeil Kim’s short film STEM into a feature film.

This marks the fourth time STEM — also a Student Academy Awards finalist — has received recognition and support from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, and the third time in 2026 alone. STEM was included in the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival Sloan Science and Technology Project Pitch, received the 2026 Alfred P. Sloan Lab Fellowship at Sundance Institute and a 2024 Sloan Production Award at USC.

Read more about STEM below. Sloan Science and Film will continue to cover updates on this promising project as development forges ahead with remarkable momentum.
