Last week, IFC Films announced that they have acquired Kyle Patrick Alvarez's film The Stanford Prison Experiment for North American distribution. This announcement comes just a few weeks after the film's premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, where it was awarded the Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize.
Critics have praised The Stanford Prison Experiment, with Variety's Justin Chang writing, "Strictly on a technical level, Alvarez’s filmmaking is largely faultless here. D.p. Jas Shelton’s use of widescreen expertly captures the tense group dynamics at play and the often-violent choreography of bodies within the frame, and his camera manages to find dynamic angles on the action while crucially conveying the suffocating sense of a locked-in environment.”
Though there is no word yet on an official release date, IFC Films is planning a release for later this year.
