Starry Night
Paxton Farrar

Dawn is an intelligent young girl living outside the small town of Electric City, Washington, a dying company town in the shadow of the Grand Coulee Dam. She develops an immediate passion for astronomy when she participates in a senior project to search for variable stars in the clear skies of the high desert. Dawn derives great solace from contemplating the scientific understanding of the universe and humanity’s place in it. She is able to imagine a fulfilling life spent searching the sky, and now she has to race to make it happen, fighting her anti-intellectual mother and her limiting circumstances.
