María Cristina

María Cristina is a film director, writer, and editor born and raised in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. She earned her bachelor's degree in Filmmaking at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts with a concentration in editing and sound design. After graduation, María Cristina was a freelance documentary editor based in Brooklyn. She worked on many projects, including BEFORE WE LEAVE VENEZUELA, a feature about a young man trying to climb Venezuela's highest peak. María Cristina also worked as a story assistant for MTV's 16 AND PREGNANT, where María Cristina gained more documentary experience. She is pursuing her master's in film at Columbia University with a focus on screenwriting, where she recently earned the Emerging Female Filmmaker Award. She was recently a semi-finalist for the Humanitas Award for her feature screenplay THE NIGHT OF THE DRAGON.
