In 1943, newlyweds Max Coleman and Laura Jasper leave Manhattan for Los Alamos to join in the effort to create the Atomic Bomb. With their friend, Jack Priest, the three find themselves in a deeply alien land, where their friendships are betrayed and their young marriage threatened as they build the most powerful weapon the world has ever seen.
