Josalynn Smith

A Columbia University Film MFA student, Josalynn Smith is the writer and producer of Something in the Water. The idea for the short originated when she attended Washington University in St. Louis and studied English Literature and Anthropology with a focus in the Anthropology of Health Disparity. Spurred by the events of Ferguson during her junior year of college, she found her footing as an activist and started to branch into the world of ecofeminism (the connection between environmental issues, poverty, and women’s work). Issues with lead in the pipes of many schools in the St. Louis Public School District in the autumn of 2016 served as inspiration for the film.
