Jessica Oreck is an award-winning filmmaker based in NYC. She is the founder of Myriapod Productions, a production company with a focus on education and the exploration of natural sciences. Her prize-winning debut documentary, Beetle Queen Conquers Tokyo, explores the history of the development of Japan’s love affair with bugs. Her documentary Aatsinki focuses the life of reindeer herders in Finnish Lapland. The Vanquishing of the Witch Baba Yaga is about the woodlands of Eastern Europe. Her short film project, Mysteries of the Vernacular, uses using paper cutouts and stop-motion animation to talk about etymology.
