Lawrence and Brie CC Chainey

Lawrence and Brie are a young and happy couple, both with promising futures in their medical careers. Everything changes when Brie is diagnosed with Kaposi’s Sarcoma during the AIDS crisis of the 1980s. The two couldn’t have responded to the news more differently. Brie breaks off their engagement and sets off to travel the world, leaving behind her oppressively sanitary job working with the “bubble boy.” Lawrence cannot bear to lose her, but instead of joining her, he throws himself into researching a cure for AIDS. He loses track of his own life and health, living only through his love, his work, and the postcards from Brie’s travels. When he finally makes a breakthrough with AZT, he tests it on himself, unable to reach Brie and knowing that she is running out of time.
