Kimberly Townes is a thesis student in the MFA Directing program at the University of California- Los Angeles (UCLA). Kimberly has a fresh imagination and independent spirit that is evident in her work. Her current projects include Game Master, a forward thinking comedy that explores the impact of technologies upon social interaction; How to Become a Pretty Girl, an illustration of the psychological journey young women go through during cosmetic surgery; Planting Hope, a documentary on Master Topiary Artist Pearl Fryar’s scholarship fund for non-traditional students; and Zero, a high school comedy that draws a clear illustration of where the disconnect between teen girls and mathematics often occurs. She is also in the process of writing several feature scripts. Kimberly did her undergraduate studies at Hampton University, and focused most of her personal time on understanding the emerging digital revolution. Upon graduation, she was chosen to work as a content producer/designer for the strategic launch of BET.com; financed by Microsoft, Liberty Digital, USA Networks and News Corporation. The $35 million dollar project was the largest online urban entertainment investment at the time, and currently one of the few growing segments of Viacom’s online properties. Following the successful launch of BET.com, Kimberly joined Scripps Networks Interactive and mastered her understanding of the online content and entertainment business through designing web content at the Home and Garden Channel, Food Network, Do It Yourself and Fine Living channels, respectively. Kimberly’s corporate experiences at these multi-billion dollar companies making their first foray into the next generation of media have given her an uncommon practical knowledge of convergence, marketing and production.
